Acai Benefits for Diabetic Patients

The antioxidant properties of the acai berry have recently been found to help in regulating high blood-sugar glucose levels in the body; a factor which causes micro vessel damage, leading to most of the complications suffered by diabetic patients.
A recent German study observed the effect that 600 mg of anthocyanins, the antioxidant found in the acai berry, daily for two months would have on twelve adult diabetic patients. To observe the changes in their health, gum tissue samples were taken before and after the test, showing that abnormal collagen production as a result of blood sugar glucose levels had gone down significantly.
One of the most serious diabetic complications is retinopathy, which can cause blindness, and happens when the body attempts to repair leaking and damaged capillaries by overproducing abnormal proteins. It has been found that not only do anthocyanins prevent capillaries from leaking in the first place, but they also prevent the abnormal proteins from being produced.
From these studies on anthocyanins in diabetic patients, new revelations about acai benefits have been found concerning their effects on blood sugar glucose levels. Because there is such a high concentration of these antioxidants in acai berries, researchers have begun to study whether they should be considered a primary tool in the fight to give diabetic patients a better overall life.
